Creative Movement (ages 3-5)
Children will explore basic movement skills and concepts as well as musicality, focusing on large muscle groups and gross motor skills. Students will use imaginative exercises, and movement stories to learn about shape, space, direction and time.
Beginnings (ages 3-7)
Children will learn the foundations of dance, through ballet and tap technique. Focus will be on learning proper foot, knee, hip and upper body alignment and correct terminology to help dancers build a solid base from which to expand as they develop. Students will focus on ballet for the first several months and will begin adding tap fundamentals in January.
Beginnings Jazz (ages 5-7)
Children will learn the foundations of jazz movement and musicality. Focus will be on building strength, flexibility and balance with proper body alignment. Children will also learn jazz terminology.
Ballet, All Levels
Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. Each level will focus on proper body alignment, terminology and correct execution of steps, as well as strength and flexibility training, through barre exercises as well as center floor and across the floor combinations. All classes will use a graduated syllabus.
Tap, All Levels
Students will learn rhythm, movement and intricate footwork when they take tap classes. Focus is on proper execution of steps to include proper tap sounds, and tap terminology.
Rhythm Tap
A form of tap dance rooted in jazz syncopation and musicality. Rhythm tap uses syncopation to create it's own rhythm within music.
Jazz, All Levels
One of the most diverse forms of dance, students will learn musicality and jazz technique, focusing on balance, flexibility and strength using a wide variety of choreographic styles ranging from broadway to latin through isolations, across the floor and center floor combinations.
Hip Hop, All Levels
Heartbeats is very proud of our clean, “family friendly” approach to hip hop. Students learn the latest street styles with a focus on musicality and rhythm.
Leaps and Turns
A strictly technique class, students will learn various leap and turn combinations focusing on proper technique and formation. The classes are open to all students and do not perform in the recital.
Acrobatics
Students will learn basic tumbling, balance and flexibility skills which will emphasize dance movement. Acrobatic moves are increasingly being incorporated into other dance styles.
African
African Dance is a combination of traditional movements drawn straight from villages throughout Africa. It
includes movements that are used in ceremonies and events such as festivals and harvests and include thematic
elements dealing with war, love, death, etc. African dance is said to be the foundation for dance as we know it
now. In fact, many genres of dance, such as hip-hop, jazz, tap, contemporary, breaking, popping/locking, etc,
incorporate African Dance movements. Ultimately, African Dance is a fast paced, energetic, community driven
compilation of movements that tell stories. What you will get from this class is a greater understanding of
“dance style” and body awareness combined with a fun and interactive workout.
Musical Theater
Students will learn dance skills, combined with singing and acting to create production styled routines.
Dance for Theater
A class specifically designed with the theater student or participant in mind. Students will learn basic jazz and tap technique with an emphasis on musicality, acting and stage presence.
